About Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre

Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre is a hospital in Lacombe, Alberta. Emergency department: All ages. This service is open 24 hours a day.

Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre, usually called Lacombe Hospital, is an Alberta Health Services hospital in the city of Lacombe, about 25 km north of Red Deer. As the name suggests, it combines acute hospital care with a continuing care home, and it serves about 25,000 people in Lacombe and the surrounding area.

The emergency department is open 24 hours a day and treats patients of all ages. Its current space opened in September 2019 after a renovation funded by AHS and the Lacombe Health Trust, the hospital's local charity, which added a new waiting room and a triage desk with a clear view of the waiting area so staff can spot patients whose condition changes. AHS does not publish a live wait for this emergency department.

Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre is the regional referral centre for central Alberta.

Should I go to urgent care instead of Lacombe Hospital?

Call 911 for anything life-threatening. An emergency department is for serious problems that need a hospital. Urgent care treats problems that are not life-threatening but need care the same day. For minor problems, a family doctor, walk-in clinic or pharmacist may be quicker. If you are not sure where to go, call Health Link at 811 for advice from a nurse.
