About emergency care in Winnipeg
Winnipeg has four emergency departments that publish live waits: St. Boniface Hospital, on Taché Avenue, treats patients of all ages; Health Sciences Centre has an adult emergency for patients 17 and older and a children's emergency for patients 16 and younger, both entered at 700 William Avenue; and Grace Hospital is in St. James. Emergency departments in Winnipeg's acute care hospitals are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Its three urgent care centres, at Victoria Hospital on Pembina Highway, Seven Oaks General Hospital on McPhillips Street and Concordia Hospital on Concordia Avenue, are also open 24 hours a day for urgent problems that are not life-threatening, such as cuts that need stitches or a limb that might be broken. They are not equivalent to emergency departments. At all seven, patients are seen by medical need, not order of arrival.

Winnipeg ER wait time questions
Why aren't Winnipeg ER wait times showing right now?
At 12:50 pm CDT, no ER listed here had a current published wait. WRHA HSC Children's Emergency still lists them, so check each listing for whether it is open; this page shows the waits again as soon as they are published. If it is an emergency, call 911.
How are Winnipeg ER wait times calculated?
Winnipeg Regional Health Authority publishes "Wait to see a physician, PA or NP": The time in hours between being registered and seeing a physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner. Due to rapidly changing demands and the need to see the sickest patients first, WRHA notes that your own wait time may be more or less than the time displayed.

These measures can differ in their starting point and statistic. Compare estimates within the same measurement group. Patients with the most urgent needs are seen first.

Is there a children's ER in Winnipeg?
Yes: HSC Children's Hospital. Children's emergency departments see children and teens; adults should go to an adult or all-ages ER. In a life-threatening emergency, call 911.
Do all ERs listed on this Winnipeg page publish wait times?
Yes. Every ER and urgent care centre listed on this page has a published wait estimate.
Should I go to urgent care or the ER in Winnipeg?
Call 911 for anything life-threatening. An emergency department is for serious problems that need a hospital. Urgent care treats problems that are not life-threatening but need care the same day, and its waits are listed separately. If you are not sure where to go, call Health Links – Info Santé at 204-788-8200 for advice from a nurse.
