How WRHN calculates its wait times

“Longest expected wait to see a doctor”

An estimate of how long you may wait, from arrival, to see a doctor or nurse practitioner. WRHN updates it every hour. Patients are seen based on how sick they are, not in the order they arrive, so it may change if patients with more serious needs arrive.

People with the most urgent needs are always seen first, so your own wait may be shorter or longer. WRHN @ Midtown’s definition

About Waterloo Regional Health Network

Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN, pronounced "wren") became one organization in April 2025, when St. Mary's General Hospital and Grand River Hospital merged. It has three hospital sites in Kitchener: WRHN @ Midtown (formerly Grand River Hospital's KW campus), WRHN @ Queen's Blvd. (formerly St. Mary's General Hospital) and WRHN @ Chicopee, along with community and partner sites. It serves Waterloo Wellington and beyond, and in 2025/26 recorded 142,054 emergency visits and 4,900 births.

WRHN runs two emergency departments, at Midtown and Queen's Blvd., both open 24 hours a day. Their wait time clocks show the longest expected wait to see a doctor or nurse practitioner and the number of patients currently waiting, updated every hour.

  • Urgent care

Problems that are not life-threatening but need care today: sprains, minor cuts and burns, infections. Hours are often limited.

  • Walk-in clinics

Minor problems such as colds, sore throats, rashes or prescription refills are often quicker here.
