How WRH calculates its wait times

“Average wait to see a doctor or NP”

The length of time between being assessed by a triage nurse and seeing a doctor or nurse practitioner, shown as an average. Windsor Regional Hospital says the most critical patients are seen first, so an individual's wait may be much shorter or longer than the average. Erie Shores HealthCare, which appears in the same feed, describes its figure as an estimate from being assessed at triage to being seen by a physician. Updated about every 15 minutes.

About Windsor Regional Hospital

Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) was formed on 1 December 1994 through the amalgamation of Metropolitan General Hospital and Windsor Western Hospital Centre Inc. It operates two campuses in Windsor: the Metropolitan (Met) Campus at 1995 Lens Avenue and the Ouellette Campus at 1030 Ouellette Avenue, which it took over from Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital on 1 October 2013. WRH says it is the regional provider of advanced care for the entire former Erie St. Clair LHIN, including complex trauma, renal dialysis, cardiac care, stroke and neurosurgery intensive care, acute mental health, the Family Birthing Centre, neonatal intensive care, paediatric services and regional cancer services. Its figures for 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026 list 648 acute inpatient beds across both campuses and 3,741 live births. Both emergency departments are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for all ages: the Met Campus specializes in paediatrics, women and children and oncology, and the Ouellette Campus in mental health, cardiac care, stroke and trauma.

WRH's wait-time page also shows Erie Shores HealthCare in Leamington, a separate hospital that WRH does not operate. For all three sites the feed behind the page gives an average wait, the longest wait and the number of patients waiting, updated about every 15 minutes. WRH's average is the time from being assessed by a triage nurse to seeing a doctor or nurse practitioner. WRH is building the Fancsy Family Hospital to replace the Met and Ouellette campuses; construction began in July 2026, and its emergency department is part of a later phase, so the two current emergency departments remain WRH's emergency departments.
