About emergency care in Windsor
Windsor has two emergency departments, both run by Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) and open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for all ages: the Metropolitan Campus (the Met) at 1995 Lens Avenue and the Ouellette Campus at 1030 Ouellette Avenue. They are not interchangeable. The Met Campus emergency department specializes in paediatrics, women and children and oncology, and the hospital's paediatric inpatient unit and Family Birthing Centre are there. The Ouellette Campus emergency department specializes in mental health, cardiac care, stroke and trauma, and the campus is WRH's Lead Trauma Hospital and District Stroke Centre. Erie Shores HealthCare's emergency department in Leamington, in Essex County, has its own page.
WRH posts both waits on its wait-time page. It is an average of the time from being assessed by a triage nurse to seeing a doctor or nurse practitioner, updated about every 15 minutes, and the sickest patients are seen first. The page also shows the longest wait and the number of patients waiting. WRH is building the Fancsy Family Hospital to replace both campuses; construction began in July 2026, and the emergency departments at the Met and Ouellette campuses are the ones open today. For health advice, call Health811 at 811. In an emergency, call 911.
