How WRHA calculates its wait times
“Wait to see a physician, PA or NP”
The time in hours between being registered and seeing a physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner. Due to rapidly changing demands and the need to see the sickest patients first, WRHA notes that your own wait time may be more or less than the time displayed.
People with the most urgent needs are always seen first, so your own wait may be shorter or longer. Winnipeg Regional Health Authority’s definition

About Winnipeg Regional Health Authority
The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) is Manitoba's largest health authority. It serves more than 750,000 people in Winnipeg, Churchill and the rural municipalities of East and West St. Paul, and provides specialty referral services to nearly half a million more Manitobans, as well as residents of northwestern Ontario and Nunavut. With about 18,000 staff and an annual budget of $2.2 billion, it operates or funds over 200 health service facilities and programs.
WRHA publishes live figures for Winnipeg's four emergency departments and three urgent care centres: the number of patients waiting for a first assessment, the number being treated, and the time in hours between registering and seeing a physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner. WRHA notes that your own wait may be more or less than the time shown, because the sickest patients are seen first.

WRHA wait time questions
Why aren't WRHA ER wait times showing right now?
At 12:50 pm CDT, no ER listed here had a current published wait. Winnipeg Regional Health Authority still lists them, so check each listing for whether it is open; this page shows the waits again as soon as they are published. If it is an emergency, call 911.
How are WRHA emerg wait times calculated?
Winnipeg Regional Health Authority publishes "Wait to see a physician, PA or NP": The time in hours between being registered and seeing a physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner. Due to rapidly changing demands and the need to see the sickest patients first, WRHA notes that your own wait time may be more or less than the time displayed.
WRHA HSC Children's Emergency publishes "Wait to see a physician, PA or NP": The time in hours between being registered and seeing a physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner. Due to rapidly changing demands and the need to see the sickest patients first, WRHA notes that your own wait time may be more or less than the time displayed.
These measures can differ in their starting point and statistic. Compare estimates within the same measurement group. Patients with the most urgent needs are seen first.

How often are WRHA ER wait times updated?
Providers publish estimates on different schedules. Our checks are separate from those updates, and the displayed number may stay the same after a check. Each listing shows its available timestamp; check the source-specific frequencies below.
| Source | Provider updates | Our checks |
|---|---|---|
| Winnipeg Regional Health Authority / WRHA HSC Children's Emergency / WRHA Urgent Care | About every 5 minutes | Every 5 minutes |
Which WRHA hospitals have a children's ER?
Yes: HSC Children's Hospital. Children's emergency departments see children and teens; adults should go to an adult or all-ages ER. In a life-threatening emergency, call 911.
Does WRHA publish a wait for every site?
Yes. Every ER and urgent care centre listed on this page has a published wait estimate.
Should I go to a WRHA urgent care centre or the ER?
Call 911 for anything life-threatening. An emergency department is for serious problems that need a hospital. Urgent care treats problems that are not life-threatening but need care the same day, and its waits are listed separately. If you are not sure where to go, call Health Links – Info Santé at 204-788-8200 for advice from a nurse.
Is this the official WRHA website?
No. ERWaitTimes.ca is an independent site, not affiliated with Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. We regularly check the official estimates and link to the source. The update-frequency table above describes each feed.
