About Northeast Community Health Centre

Northeast Community Health Centre is a health centre in Edmonton, Alberta. Emergency department: All ages. This service is open 24 hours a day.

Northeast Community Health Centre is an Alberta Health Services site in northeast Edmonton. It opened in January 1999 so that patients and families in north Edmonton could get health services in their own community. It is not a full hospital: AHS describes it as a centre for outpatient and community care that also runs an emergency department.

That emergency department never closes and provides urgent and emergency care to patients of all ages with a wide range of medical conditions. Like other Alberta emergency departments, it stabilizes patients who need a higher level of care and prepares them for transfer to another facility.

The building also houses public health and adult addiction and mental health services, along with family, women's, seniors' and children's health clinics and an acute sports injury and fracture clinic. AHS also lists a Sexual Assault Response Team at the centre.

Northeast Community Health Centre ER questions

Understanding the wait

What is the Northeast Community Health Centre ER wait right now?

Source: Alberta Health Services

How is the Northeast Community Health Centre ER wait time calculated?

Alberta Health Services publishes it as "Estimated wait to see a physician": An estimate of how long it might take from an assessment by a triage nurse in the emergency department or urgent care to being seen by a physician. It does not represent the total time patients may spend at the hospital, and it does not apply to critically ill or injured patients, who are always seen quickly. We check it every 5 minutes. People with the most urgent needs are always seen first, so your own wait may be shorter or longer.

Is there an ER near Northeast Community Health Centre with a shorter wait?

"Nearby ER wait times right now", at the end of this page, lists the nearest tracked sites with their current waits. These are the nearest facilities in our tracked dataset, not necessarily every local care option. A shorter estimate is not a recommendation to travel farther. If it is an emergency, call 911.

Should I go to urgent care instead of Northeast Community Health Centre?

Call 911 for anything life-threatening. An emergency department is for serious problems that need a hospital. Urgent care treats problems that are not life-threatening but need care the same day. For minor problems, a family doctor, walk-in clinic or pharmacist may be quicker. If you are not sure where to go, call Health Link at 811 for advice from a nurse.
