About Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre

Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre is a urgent care centre in Calgary, Alberta. Urgent care: All ages. This service is open 24 hours a day.

Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre, usually called Sheldon Chumir, is an Alberta Health Services health centre in Calgary's Beltline, just south of downtown and across from Central Memorial Park. It opened in 2008 on the site of the former Colonel Belcher veterans' hospital, and is named after Sheldon Chumir, a civil liberties lawyer and Calgary MLA.

Its urgent care centre, on the main floor, is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It treats problems that need same-day care but are not life-threatening, such as broken bones, sprains, cuts that need stitches, asthma, dehydration, pain and infections. CT, X-ray and lab tests are done on site, and urgent mental health and social work support are available. Patients are seen in order of medical need, not arrival time.

It is not an emergency department and does not admit patients overnight. For chest pain, stroke symptoms or a serious injury, call 911. If you're not sure where to go, call Health Link at 811.

Sheldon Chumir urgent care questions

Understanding the wait

What is the Sheldon Chumir urgent care wait right now?

At 8 pm MDT, the estimated wait to see a physician was 1 hour 40 minutes (shorter wait), according to Alberta Health Services. It changes as patients arrive, and the most urgent cases are always seen first.

Source: Alberta Health Services

How is the Sheldon Chumir urgent care wait time calculated?

Alberta Health Services publishes it as "Estimated wait to see a physician": An estimate of how long it might take from an assessment by a triage nurse in the emergency department or urgent care to being seen by a physician. It does not represent the total time patients may spend at the hospital, and it does not apply to critically ill or injured patients, who are always seen quickly. We check it every 5 minutes. People with the most urgent needs are always seen first, so your own wait may be shorter or longer.

Is there an urgent care near Sheldon Chumir with a shorter wait?

"Nearby urgent care wait times right now", at the end of this page, lists the nearest tracked sites with their current waits. These are the nearest facilities in our tracked dataset, not necessarily every local care option. A shorter estimate is not a recommendation to travel farther. If it is an emergency, call 911.
