We check it every 5 minutes and show its own label for the number. How this page works
9 in 10 patients are seen within this time; about 1 in 10 wait longer. It is not the total time at the hospital, and sicker patients are seen first. How edwaittimes.ca defines it
The colours are set by us, not by edwaittimes.ca. Under 2 hours is the Canadian goal for even the least urgent patients. cihi.ca

BC Children's Hospital is a hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia. Children's emergency: Children & teens (16 and under). This service is open 24 hours a day.
BC Children's Hospital (BCCH) is the Provincial Health Services Authority's provincial pediatric hospital in Vancouver. It is on the Oak Street campus, at 4500 Oak Street, which it shares with BC Women's Hospital. PHSA says it provides expert health care, including mental health care, for the most seriously ill or injured children from across British Columbia. The Teck Acute Care Centre, which holds the emergency department, medical imaging and inpatient units, opened to patients on October 29, 2017. Its pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) is a 28-bed unit on the fourth floor and, according to the hospital, the only intensive care unit in British Columbia that specializes in pediatric medicine. Trauma Services BC's 2017-18 annual report lists BC Children's as a "Level 1 Tertiary/Quaternary Ped. Hospital". Other programs include cardiovascular and thoracic surgery (including heart transplant and ventricular assist devices), cancer and blood disorders with a blood and marrow transplant program, multi-organ transplant, child and adolescent psychiatry (including the Healthy Minds Centre), a burn unit, and the Sunny Hill programs for development and rehabilitation, which moved to the Oak Street campus in August 2020. A Centre for Health Complexity is under construction at the former Sunny Hill site, 3644 Slocan Street, and is scheduled to open in early 2028. Births and the neonatal intensive care unit are at BC Women's Hospital; the NICU is on the second floor of the Teck Acute Care Centre.
The emergency department is in the Teck Acute Care Centre at 4480 Oak Street, near entrance 55 off West 28th Avenue, between Heather Street and Oak Street. It is open 24 hours a day, at all times, and provides emergency care to children and youth up to 16 years of age. Anyone 17 or older can go to their nearest adult emergency department. For problems that are not emergencies, the hospital says families can visit an urgent and primary care centre (UPCC), if one is available in their community; UPCCs offer medical attention within 12 to 24 hours for conditions such as sprains and minor cuts or burns. Vancouver City Centre UPCC at 188 Nelson Street is one of several in Vancouver, open Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 10 pm and Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm. HealthLink BC nurses are available by calling 8-1-1, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for free health advice.

"Nearby children's ER wait times right now", at the end of this page, lists the nearest tracked sites with their current waits. These are the nearest facilities in our tracked dataset, not necessarily every local care option. A shorter estimate is not a recommendation to travel farther. If it is an emergency, call 911.

edwaittimes.ca describes its ED wait as the time from triage assessment to seeing a doctor or nurse practitioner. The displayed estimate is the 90th percentile: about 9 in 10 patients are seen within that time, while about 1 in 10 may wait longer. It is not an average, an appointment time or a guarantee.
No. Estimated length of stay covers arrival to discharge home for 75% of patients, excluding people admitted to hospital. It includes assessment, tests and treatment. The wait-to-clinician estimate and this total-visit measure describe different parts of care.
The publisher says its online estimates refresh every five minutes. This is separate from our checks of the source and does not mean the number must change at every refresh. The page shows the timestamp available for the latest information.
Demand can change suddenly as patients arrive, particularly after a serious incident. Patients with more urgent needs receive priority, so your own wait can be shorter or longer than the estimate.
