We check it every 5 minutes and show its own label for the number. How this page works
9 in 10 patients are seen within this time; about 1 in 10 wait longer. It is not the total time at the hospital, and sicker patients are seen first. How edwaittimes.ca defines it
The colours are set by us, not by edwaittimes.ca. Under 2 hours is the Canadian goal for even the least urgent patients. cihi.ca

Lions Gate Hospital is a hospital in North Vancouver, British Columbia. Emergency department: All ages. This service is open 24 hours a day.
Lions Gate Hospital (LGH) is a Vancouver Coastal Health acute care hospital at 231 East 15th Street in North Vancouver. It opened in April 1961 and replaced North Vancouver General Hospital (1929) on the same campus. The Province says it has had 329 beds and 10 operating rooms since the new Paul Myers Tower, with 108 beds and eight operating rooms, opened to patients on March 9, 2025. Infrastructure BC describes LGH as a Level 3 Trauma Centre, and VCH's 2016 Accreditation Canada distinction lists it among its Level III trauma centres. VCH also calls it one of only five neurosurgery centres in B.C. The hospital serves the North Shore, and the Province says it also serves patients from the Sea-to-Sky corridor, the Sunshine Coast and the Central Coast. Its services include an intensive care unit, the Seaspan High Acuity Unit (12 rooms, opened in May 2022), the HOpe Centre for mental health and addiction care (opened 2014) with inpatient psychiatry, maternity services with a neonatal intensive care unit, and inpatient paediatric services.
The emergency department is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. There is a five-minute patient drop-off area in front of the emergency department, reached from St. Georges Avenue. A Psychiatric Emergency and Assessment Team (PEAT) area inside the department gives prompt psychiatric assessments around the clock. VCH does not give an age limit for the department. It notes that the BC Children's Hospital Emergency Department in Vancouver provides emergency care to children and youth up to the age of 16, and Lions Gate has an inpatient paediatric unit on the third floor for patients under 17 years and minus one day. Births are at the hospital's own third-floor labour and delivery unit, and the neonatal intensive care unit cares for babies born at or above 32 weeks of gestation. For problems that are not emergencies, the nearest urgent and primary care centre is the North Vancouver Urgent and Primary Care Centre, Suite 200, 221 West Esplanade, open Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 10 pm and Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm. It is walk-in only.

"Nearby ER wait times right now", at the end of this page, lists the nearest tracked sites with their current waits. These are the nearest facilities in our tracked dataset, not necessarily every local care option. A shorter estimate is not a recommendation to travel farther. If it is an emergency, call 911.

edwaittimes.ca describes its ED wait as the time from triage assessment to seeing a doctor or nurse practitioner. The displayed estimate is the 90th percentile: about 9 in 10 patients are seen within that time, while about 1 in 10 may wait longer. It is not an average, an appointment time or a guarantee.
No. Estimated length of stay covers arrival to discharge home for 75% of patients, excluding people admitted to hospital. It includes assessment, tests and treatment. The wait-to-clinician estimate and this total-visit measure describe different parts of care.
The publisher says its online estimates refresh every five minutes. This is separate from our checks of the source and does not mean the number must change at every refresh. The page shows the timestamp available for the latest information.
Demand can change suddenly as patients arrive, particularly after a serious incident. Patients with more urgent needs receive priority, so your own wait can be shorter or longer than the estimate.

Call 911 for anything life-threatening. An emergency department is for serious problems that need a hospital. Urgent care treats problems that are not life-threatening but need care the same day. For minor problems, a family doctor, walk-in clinic or pharmacist may be quicker. If you are not sure where to go, call HealthLink BC at 811 for advice from a nurse.
