About HSC Children's Hospital

HSC Children's Hospital is a hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Children's emergency: Children & teens (16 and under). This service is open 24 hours a day.

HSC Children's Hospital is the children's hospital of Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg, Manitoba's provincial tertiary centre for pediatric care, run by Shared Health. The Children's Hospital of Winnipeg joined Winnipeg General Hospital and others to form Health Sciences Centre in 1973.

The Children's Emergency is for all patients 16 years or younger; go to 700 William Avenue and report to the Triage Desk. Children are registered, triaged by a nurse and seen in order of priority, not arrival time. HSC suggests that mild cold and flu symptoms may be assessed by a primary care provider or clinic instead, which can save a trip and a long wait.

Understanding the wait

Why isn't the HSC Children's Hospital ER wait showing right now?

How is the HSC Children's Hospital ER wait time calculated?

WRHA HSC Children's Emergency publishes it as "Wait to see a physician, PA or NP": The time in hours between being registered and seeing a physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner. Due to rapidly changing demands and the need to see the sickest patients first, WRHA notes that your own wait time may be more or less than the time displayed. We check it every 5 minutes. People with the most urgent needs are always seen first, so your own wait may be shorter or longer.

Is there an ER near HSC Children's Hospital with a shorter wait?

"Nearby children's ER wait times right now", at the end of this page, lists the nearest tracked sites with their current waits. These are the nearest facilities in our tracked dataset, not necessarily every local care option. A shorter estimate is not a recommendation to travel farther. If it is an emergency, call 911.

Should I go to urgent care instead of HSC Children's Hospital?

Call 911 for anything life-threatening. An emergency department is for serious problems that need a hospital. Urgent care treats problems that are not life-threatening but need care the same day. For minor problems, a family doctor, walk-in clinic or pharmacist may be quicker. If you are not sure where to go, call Health Links – Info Santé at 204-788-8200 for advice from a nurse.
