We check it every 5 minutes and show its own label for the number. How this page works
An average of recorded waits over the provider's reporting period, not a prediction for someone arriving now. It is not the total time at the hospital. Sicker patients are seen first. How Hamilton Emergency Wait Times defines it
The colours are set by us, not by Hamilton Emergency Wait Times. Under 2 hours is the Canadian goal for even the least urgent patients. cihi.ca

West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is a hospital in Grimsby, Ontario. Emergency department: Adults 18+. This service is open 24 hours a day.
West Lincoln Memorial Hospital (WLMH) is a Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) hospital at 169 Main Street East in Grimsby. The original hospital was built in 1949, and Wikipedia says it became part of HHS in 2014. A replacement hospital on the same property, behind the 1949 building, opened to the public on November 23, 2025, when the new emergency department began taking patients at 7 am; the rest of the hospital opened on November 24. The address did not change. At opening HHS listed 55 inpatient beds, six maternal and newborn suites, and an emergency department with 18 rooms, two of them major trauma rooms. HHS's list of services is the emergency department, diagnostic imaging, complex continuing care, acute inpatient care, maternal and newborn care, day surgery and endoscopy, and ambulatory care, and it names WLMH as one of its intensive care sites. Obstetric care is for low-risk pregnancies, with six private birthing suites; an HHS story counted 500 births at WLMH in 2025. HHS's rebuilding page scheduled demolition of the old building to finish by the end of summer 2026.
The emergency department is open 24 hours a day, every day. HHS's location page says it serves as the hospital's front entrance until the old building is decommissioned. The Hamilton emergency wait-times site lists West Lincoln among its emergency departments for adults, age 18 and older; children and youth 17 and under are directed to the McMaster Children's Hospital emergency department in Hamilton. The wait shown on this page is the average time from checking in at the front desk to seeing a doctor, averaged over the last six hours and updated every 15 minutes. There is no urgent care centre in Grimsby. The nearest hospital urgent care centres are in Hamilton, including HHS's West End Urgent Care Centre at 690 Main Street West, open 10 am to 9 pm every day; Niagara Health runs urgent care centres in Fort Erie and Port Colborne, normally 10 am to 8 pm daily, per Niagara Health. The wait time posted refers to the length of time between when you arrive to the front desk to check in and when you see a doctor. The wait time is calculated by averaging the time that each patient has waited over the last six hours. Your experience can differ as the number and urgency of patients change.

Hamilton's hospitals say their computer systems update the published wait times automatically every 15 minutes. Our site checks the feed separately; checking more often does not make the hospital's estimate newer.

No. Staff assess urgency using the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS). Critical patients receive priority whether they arrive by ambulance or on their own. The posted wait is an estimate rather than a reserved place in line.

Hamilton's wait-time website says its departments can care for children. For choosing a service, Hamilton Health Sciences directs children aged 17 and under to McMaster Children's Hospital and lists Hamilton General, Juravinski and West Lincoln Memorial as adult emergency departments. Urgent care centres treat all ages. These routing recommendations do not mean a child in an emergency should delay care. Call 911 for a medical emergency.
