An estimate for someone arriving now, not a guaranteed wait. It is not the total time at the hospital. Sicker patients are seen first. How Niagara Health defines it
The colours are set by us, not by Niagara Health. Under 2 hours is the Canadian goal for even the least urgent patients. cihi.ca

Marotta Family Hospital is a hospital in St. Catharines, Ontario. Emergency department. This service is open 24 hours a day.
Marotta Family Hospital is Niagara Health's hospital at 1200 Fourth Avenue in St. Catharines. It opened on March 24, 2013 as the St. Catharines Site, replacing the older St. Catharines General and Ontario Street sites, and took its current name after a $15 million gift from the Marotta family, announced in January 2024. It brought care to Niagara that residents once had to leave the region for: the Walker Family Cancer Centre, the Heart Investigation Unit for cardiac catheterization and stent insertion (PCI), and specialized mental health services.
Its emergency department is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and includes a four-bed Psychiatric Emergency Service. Niagara Health's births are centralized here: more than 3,000 babies a year are born in the Women and Babies' Unit, beside the region's only Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Children's Unit. The hospital's Intensive Care Unit also runs a Critical Care Response Team, which takes critical care expertise to patients anywhere in the hospital. Patients in the emergency department are seen by medical need, not order of arrival.

"Nearby ER wait times right now", at the end of this page, lists the nearest tracked sites with their current waits. The wait time presented here refers to the time between being assessed by a triage nurse and seeing a doctor or nurse practitioner. It is an estimate, not a guaranteed waiting time or the total length of your visit.
Waiting = Patients who have not yet had an initial assessment by a physician or nurse practitioner.
Treating = Patients who have had an initial assessment completed by a physician or nurse practitioner.
These are department counts, not your position in a first-come, first-served queue.
Niagara Health updates its wait-time data every five minutes. New arrivals and serious emergencies can change demand immediately, so the displayed estimate may differ from your experience.
A triage nurse assesses medical urgency. Patients with the most serious conditions are treated first, regardless of arrival time. If your condition changes while you wait, tell a member of the clinical team.
